BC FERRY & MARINEWORKERS' UNION

Welcome Message

We created this video for the new hires coming onboard the union. For some this is the first time they have become aware of the various positions in the union. This video is also great for the public to see the pleasant people and smiling faces behind the jobs.

Current Events

Often there are global events that impact seafarers around the world, including our local waters. The BCFMWU supported fellow seafarers and mariners by exposing and helping the stranded sailors on board the many stranded container ships that were owned by the bankrupt shipping company Hanjin Shipping.

President's Message

The BCFMWU has chosen to use video as their messaging platform, as it is way more effective than print material - not to mention less waste. Video allows the President of the union to effectively broadcast his news, updates and any other current affairs to desktops and mobile devices.

Conferences

2016 was the first time the Union put on a Shop Steward Conference, and it was very successful! We captured a lot of the event so that others that were not there could get a glimpse of what their union was providing to their fellow brothers & sisters.

Fundraising Events

The BCFMWU often partneredwith other Unions & Locals to raise money for charitable causes. The ILWU and BCFMWU teamed up to raise money for the Surrey Food Bank.

Being mariners, the BCFMWU could not miss out on the Silly Boats Regatta and help raise money for the kids in need

Community Events

The BCFMWU prides itself in their diverse membership, and the BCFMWU supported Nanaimo's first Pride Parade..
